Rabbet

A rabbet (also called a rebate) is a recess or groove cut into or near the edge of a piece of wood, plastic, etc. to receive the edge of another piece. The joint made in this manner is also a rabbet. In woodworking the rabbet can be cut with a Wood router, shoulder plane or pared away with a chisel.
